Summary
This Life Science Insights study examines the move by contract research organizations (CROs) and electronic data capture (EDC) vendors to establish alliance portfolios. It also examines the implications of these alliances for CROs, EDC vendors, and their sponsor customers.
"Drug development companies face significant decisions regarding their EDC deployment. Recent survey data from Life Science Insights suggests that they are interested in increasing their use of EDC over the next 12 months, but first they need to overcome hurdles such as concerns about security, ROI, performance and scalability issues, and interoperability in order to get management buy-in. Next, they must decide if they will buy/lease/outsource EDC deployment via a CRO or buy/lease directly from an EDC vendor," said Scott Lundstrom, vice president of research at Life Science Insights. "CROs with knowledge of several EDC solutions can provide value-added consultative services to drug development companies that may not have a technology preference. Also, when CROs provide examples of successful implementations, it will give sponsors a greater impetus to take advantage of electronic data capture in clinical trials."
