Summary

Hologic, based in Bedford, Massachusetts, USA, develops, manufacturers and supplies medical imaging technology and systems for osteoporosis assessment, mammography and breast biopsy, direct-to-digital X-ray technology for general radiography applications, mini C-arm imaging for orthopaedic applications and industrial X-ray systems for non-destructive testing. Hologic also distributes complementary products manufactured by other companies, including Esaote's extremity MRI imaging systems, a jointly-labelled breast ultrasound imaging system with Aloka, computer-aided detection software for breast cancer detection with R2 Technology and iCAD, and breast biopsy systems with Suros Surgical Systems and Ethicon Endosurgery, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.

Following a change in strategy which led to Hologic phasing out the sale of its own digital X-ray systems in 2004, the company's digital detectors are primarily sold to original equipment manufacturers.
