Summary
US demand for drug packaging will grow 4.7 percent annually through 2008. Blister packs will remain dominant based on FDA unit dose laws for institutional drugs and strength in clinical trial and OTC medication. Prefillable inhalers, pouches and strip packs will also fare well. Plastics will remain the top material but will be outpaced by foils.
This study analyzes the $5.4 billion US pharmaceutical packaging industry. It presents historical demand data (1993, 1998, 2003) to 2008 and 2013 by raw and semi-finished material, by product (e.g., bottles and jars, prefillable syringes, medication tubes, parenteral vials and ampuls, IV containers, aerosol containers, paperboard boxes, prescription dispensers, thermoformed kits and trays); by accessory (e.g., caps and closures, package inserts, labels, shrink wrap and bands, inner seals); and by market.
The study also examines the market environment, details industry structure and market share, and profiles 28 industry competitors including Alcan Packaging, MeadWestvaco, Owens-Illinois, Cardinal Health Packaging Services, Sharp, Silgan Plastics, West Pharmaceutical Services, Rexam, Tekni-Plex, and Kimble Glass.
