Summary

US demand for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products will grow 5.1 percent annually through 2011. Clinical chemistry and immunoassay methods will remain the top two IVD sciences, while nucleic acid testing products will continue to generate the fastest gains. Hospital labs will stay the largest market while home health care will grow the fastest.

This study analyzes the $15.2 billion US IVD industry. It presents historical demand data for 1996, 2001 and 2006 and forecasts to 2011 and 2016 by product type (e.g., reagents and consumables, clinical chemistry, immunoassay, blood testing, nucleic acid testing, microbiology, cellular analysis, anatomical pathology, effusion and visual inspection, cytology); by application (e.g., endocrine conditions, infectious diseases, cancer, drug testing, heart disease testing); and by market.

The study also considers market environment factors, details industry structure, evaluates company market share and profiles 27 major players including Johnson & Johnson, Roche Holding, Abbott Laboratories, Siemens Medical Solutions, Beckman Coulter, Dade Behring Holdings, and Becton Dickenson.
